A youth-centered reflection on how lack of recognition affects identity, mobility, and global opportunities for Somaliland’s young population.
Over 70% of Somaliland’s population is under the age of 30—an entire generation born and raised in a functioning but unrecognized state. For these young people, the absence of recognition affects travel, education opportunities, global employment, and international engagement.
Yet, Somaliland’s youth continue to innovate, lead civic initiatives, and advocate peacefully for their place in the world. Recognition would not only validate past struggles but unlock future potential for a generation eager to contribute globally.
Somaliland recognition is not only a political question—it is a human one.
